Warning
Scams: Beware of scams involving medical products. The risk of payment fraud and delivery of non-compliant and/or inferior products is high at this time.
Export Bans: Some countries enforce export bans on certain products. Export bans enforced after you have placed an order can result in a total loss – or severe delay.
Before you order
Here are our recommendations for importers planning to order medical products.
Prices
It’s currently a seller’s market for many medical products, with more demand than supply. Expect higher unit prices for many products.
MOQ
The Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) requirements are also higher than normal. Some suppliers don’t accept orders valued less than USD 100,000.
Payment Terms
Some suppliers may insist on a 100% prepayment, before starting production. We still advise that you only pay a 30% deposit and 70% balance after quality inspection and lab testing.
Product Compliance
Medical devices and equipment are regulated in the United States and the European Union. Such regulations are there for a reason – to ensure that the product is not worthless (which is a risk) – and will not go away due to the current COVID-19 outbreak. You must request and verify test reports and other compliance documents (e.g. DoC) before placing an order.

Hand Sanitizer Buyer’s Guide
If used properly, hand sanitizers are proven to be effective in killing bacteria, and viruses. They can be divided into alcoholic and non-alcoholic types and can be sold into various forms like liquid, gel, foam, and spray. Note that there are pros and cons to each type of hand sanitizer.
Liquid Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer
These hand sanitizers generally contain one of two active ingredients such as alcohol or isopropanol that are able to kill germs and bacteria. Different products might contain different percentages of alcohol and isopropanol.
The FDA suggests that hand sanitizers should contain 60%-95% alcohol for maximum efficacy in protecting against viruses and bacteria including coronaviruses, MRSA, Ecoli, influenza A virus, rhinovirus, hepatitis A virus, and more.
Hand sanitizers that have an alcohol content lower than 60% might have poorer performance in killing germs and bacteria.
However, there are concerns for alcohol-based sanitizers due to flammability risks and potential toxicity hazards when ingested by mistake. In addition, alcohol-based sanitizers can cause dermatosis such as irritation, cracking and peeling of the skin when used frequently.
Gel Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer
Besides being found in liquid form, hand sanitizers are often sold as a gel. Other than the active ingredient for killing germs and bacteria, the physical nature of these two types of sanitizers might result in different antiseptic performance.
For example, an hand sanitizer in liquid form acts more rapidly, generally around 15 seconds, and leaves less residual substance on hands compared to hand sanitizers in gels, which takes around 30 seconds to act. Also, in general, liquid hand sanitizers are more effective in terms of killing germs and bacteria compared to gel sanitizers.
Some hand sanitizer manufacturers produce hand sanitizers in different scents as a marketing point, such as floral, fruits or herbal fragrance. Commonly seen scents for hand sanitizers include lavender, lemon, orange, berry peppermint, and cinnamon.
Hand sanitizer manufacturers also produce sanitizers in different volumes and designs, depending on the application scenarios. For example, 5 ml, 10 ml, 30 ml, and 50 ml hand sanitizers are suitable for outdoor uses, and these products often have easy-to-carry designs, like with a ring or a string attached to the lid.
Household or indoor used hand sanitizers, in general, are larger in volume, ranging from 200ml to 5L, loaded in bottles or dispensers.
Spray Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer
Spray hand sanitizer is another type of popular antiseptic products. It can be either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, depending on the product and the receipt.
Some people argue that spray may be somewhat wasteful since the drops might miss your hands or be deflected into the air when spraying, while others argue that spray is more economically effective, for the liquid is condensed by the nozzle and thus delivers fewer doses, although this might lead to the dilution of active ingredients.
There is no professional unified evaluation on this matter, and we suggest buyers choose the products depending on their own needs.
Foam Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers in the form of foam are gaining popularity in recent years. Some experts believe that it is a more cost-effective choice since the airy texture of the sanitizer adds more doses. However, the active ingredient will, therefore, be diluted and could affect the effectiveness of the sanitizers.
Another advantage of foam sanitizer is that it clings to the hand when applying it and will not slide off the hands like gel sanitizers, which is suitable when used in environments where hygiene might be even more important, such as restaurants, offices, and classrooms.
Antiseptics Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizer
Alcohol-free sanitizers usually contain benzalkonium chloride (a quaternary ammonium salt) as its active ingredient in killing bacteria and germs instead of alcohol.
However, alcohol-free sanitizers are proven to be less effective compared to alcohol-based sanitizers.
Conversely, the nature of this kind of sanitizer makes it less flammable, relatively less toxic to the human body and milder to the skin.
Regulations
European Union
In the European Union, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be classified as a cosmetic product if there is no indication of biocidal claims like “anti-bacterial”, “anti-viral”, and so on, in the product, packaging, or ads. Such products usually fall under the scope of the EC Regulation 1223/2009 on Cosmetics.
If the importer or manufacturer makes biocidal claims on the packaging or advertisements, such as the product being antibacterial, disinfectant, kill germs, bacteriostatic, virucidal and any phrases with equivalent or similar meanings, then the sanitizer shall fall under the Biocides Product Regulation (BRP) (EU) 528/2012 and treated as a Product Type 1.
This regulation involves the evaluation and approval issues of the active ingredients used in sanitizers, such as ethanol, propanol, chlorine, chlorhexidine, and/or quaternary ammonium compounds and requires that the products be safe to the human body and effective in killing germs or bacteria.
United States
In the US, the FDA regulates the standards for alcoholic hand sanitizers and requires that such products should contain 60%-95% of ethyl alcohol or ethanol, or 70%-91.3% isopropyl alcohol. In addition, hand sanitizers must be produced according to the Good Manufacturing Practices requirements.
Note that these regulations also cover gel and other types of hand sanitizers.
