What do I need to prepare before contacting these suppliers?
The first thing you must decide is whether you intend to buy custom designed jewelry or the factories standard designs. Assuming you opt for the latter, you can either select products directly from their websites or request their latest product catalog.
However, if you intend to order custom-designed jewelry pieces, things get a bit more complex as you must provide the following:
- Design drawings
- Bill of materials
- Logo and engraving files (if any)
Are Vietnamese jewelry factories cheaper than those in China?
While labor costs in Vietnam are significantly lower than those in China, this rarely translates into lower prices – at least for small buyers. There are a few reasons why this is the case:
1. Vietnamese factories generally purchase large amounts of components and materials from China. The material costs make up a larger share of the total unit price than the labor cost, which is why the latter only has a limited impact on the unit price.
2. Many factories in Vietnam are running at full capacity already, and have no incentive to reduce prices to get more customers. Further, many factories in Vietnam are more accustomed to working with larger companies and can be somewhat skeptical about dealing with smaller businesses. This is also why the MOQs tend to be the buyer.
As such, don’t expect big price cuts by shifting your orders to a Vietnamese jewelry factory. That said, Vietnamese suppliers are still highly interesting as they offer unique products and materials – some of which cannot be found elsewhere.

Hello Maria, as per comment below. Vietnam is a company that is yet opening its doors to WW trade. Matter of fact many companies are not even capable or even have the permits to export. And the ones that do are not many as in the ‘world factory’ that is China. Many will not accept a minimum quantity order or have a rather high one in order to export (taxes on exporting gold). – Search for AFTA integrated free tax zones. There ought to be 4 or 5 in the country (the ones near the two biggest cities). You will be searching for EPZ zines. Hope it helps. Cheers.

Hello Shyam, thing is Vietnamese factories are not always structured enough to being able to export. They ahave limitations (taxes) on exporting if they are not in specific industrial zone, in which if they are they are ather BIG. So it’s not sure they will accept minimum qt.ties.. Not so easy. But I might help out if in need, can’t promise anything..
We are looking for factories in Vietnam to make jewelry with stone beads, leather and sterling silver. We are based in the USA and would appreciate any help. Also, if we could find a quality control and sourcing agent for this project that would be very helpful. We have looked on Alibaba but found very few suppliers in Vietnam.

You want to search for specific zones in the country, the ones that do not pay the exorbitant fees for exporting precious metals and that in fact import the raw matiers from outside Vietnam. They are usually either Korean or Japanese joint venture companies (the HQ is in the motherland and the factory is in Vietnam but they accept gladly OEM). The bigger ones in Vietnam are two basically. But they have their own brands and could clash with your. So. Be aware. Search for EPZ areas. Hope it helps. Cheers.
