Prices
It’s currently a seller’s market for many medical products, with more demand than supply. Expect higher unit prices for more products.
MOQ
The Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) requirements are also higher than normal. Some suppliers don’t accept orders valued less than USD 100,000.
Payment Terms
Some suppliers may insist on a 100% pre-payment, before starting production. We still advise that you only pay a 30% deposit and 70% balance after quality inspection and lab testing.

Such regulations are there for a reason – to ensure that the product is not worthless (which is a risk) – and will not go away due to the current COVID-19 outbreak. Infrared Thermometers
An infrared thermometer converts an object’s radiant energy into an electric signal to perform the temperature measurement. The temperature measurement can be done without contacting the persons, but it will lose accuracy when used with a long distance.
Infrared thermometers are widely used for fever detection. Compared to digital thermometers, infrared thermometers are safer as they don’t require any direct contact with the patient. They are typically used to measure the heat from the forehead for detection.
Infrared thermometers are suitable for all ages, and some infrared thermometers are featured with an alarm system when the temperature exceeds 37℃ to allow effective detection.
Digital Thermometers
Regular digital thermometers use electronic heat sensors to measure the body temperature of a person. It requires direct contact with the body parts such as mouth, armpit or rectum. However, accuracy will be different for different body parts. Here is a brief summary of the accuracy:
- Rectum – Most accurate for infants (under the age of 3)
- Mouth – Most accurate for other people
- Armpit – The least accurate (All age)
Digital thermometers usually provide the result within a minute and are suitable for all ages. However, there are some circumstances that might affect the accuracy of the result. For instance, food or drinks residuals in the mouth might cause an inaccurate reading of the person.
Wearable Smart Thermometer Strips
A strip thermometer typically contains heat-sensitive material such as liquid crystals to indicate temperatures in different colors. The strips are usually attached to a person’s forehead to monitor the temperature changes for a long period.
Strip-type thermometers are less accurate than digital thermometers or infrared thermometers. According to a study by CEBM, “Peripheral thermometers do not detect about 4 in 10 fevers.” And the temperature measurement can be off by at least +/- 1.5℃.
However, it can be used as a reference for detecting temperature overnight, as it allows you to keep track of the temperature changes. Additionally, you can monitor the temperature changes without waking up the patient and then take accurate measurements by other instruments such as digital thermometers.
Pacifier Thermometers
Pacifier thermometers are commonly used for babies’ temperature measurements. Similar to thermometer strips, it allows you to keep track of the baby’s condition for a long period. Also, it provides comfort and less disturbance for babies during the measurement.
However, a pacifier thermometer usually takes more than three minutes to reach a steady-state, which means it shall stay in the baby’s mouth for accurate measurement, and this might be difficult.
In addition, pacifier thermometers are not as accurate as digital thermometers or infrared thermometers. They shall be considered as an aid to monitor the temperature change of a baby like the thermometers strips.
Mercury Thermometers
Mercury thermometers are known as a traditional thermometer. It is a glass tube filled with mercury and a standard temperature scale marked on the tube. The mercury will expand and contract due to the temperature changes.
Mercury thermometers can be used in the rectum, mouth, and armpit. Mercury thermometers are extremely accurate for measuring body temperature due to the physical properties of mercury.
At the same time, the glass tube with mercury can be easily broken and let the toxic mercury escape. This could pose serious consequences to humans, especially for children. Further, the scale is harder to read compared with digital thermometers.
Regulations
European Union
In the European Union, medical thermometers are regulated by the Medical Devices Directive. In addition, there are harmonized standards – EN 12470 Part 1-5 – for clinical thermometers including mercury thermometers, pacifier thermometers, and other medical thermometers.
United States
Medical devices, including thermometers, are regulated by the FDA in the US. Medical thermometers are covered by the code of federal regulations title 21 Part 880 – General hospital and personal use of medical devices. For instance, importers can find the requirement of clinical electronic thermometers in Part 880.2910.
